With their fresh and pulsatile sound the Jan Prax Quartett is a promising newcomer to ACT’s Young German Jazz series. These four musicians are passionately combining traditional and progressive elements of jazz in order to create their own unique expression. Inspired by the timeless spirit of American jazz legends from John Coltrane to Modern Mainstream heroes like Joshua Redman, the self-composed tunes of the band present a powerful commitment to the music of former times. “Keepin’ A Style Alive” is their debut album.

"You are so young and play so great. I hate you!" With this compliment, none other than David Sanborn honored Jan Prax after his concert on the main stage at the Leverkusen Jazz Days in 2013, which was the reward for winning the festival's "future sounds" competition a year earlier. The media also echoes this sentiment: "Prax plays the alto saxophone like the devil..." wrote the Hamburger Abendblatt about the Karlsruhe-born musician born in 1992, and the Augsburger Allgemeine sees his ensemble as "an energetic tour de force of the highest quality."
