Diego Pinera
Diego Pinera studied percussion at Berklee College of Music (USA), at the University of Music in Havana (Cuba) and at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig.
In 2017 he was awarded the ECHO Jazz as best national drummer.
Pinera's encounters with the music of Latin America and the breadth of jazz serve as an artistic filter for his music.
His characterful personal style is characterised by an advanced rhythmic playing concept, a jazz sound with a Latin touch as well as the urge for freedom in improvisation.
However, Pinera's musical complexity and virtuosity always remain subtle, and a special freshness and lightness permeates his artistic work.
