The ACT debut of Pinera, who won the ECHO Jazz award for best drummer in 2017, is a retrospective but also forward-looking portrait of the artist. After more than 17 years since leaving his native Uruguay, he returns to those roots and influences that have shaped him and made him the musician he is today.
Diego Pinera
The Uruguayan-born jazz drummer and composer is known for his virtuoso technique and rhythmic complexity. He studied in Havana, Boston and Leipzig, which strongly characterised his music through a variety of influences such as Afro-Cuban rhythms, Latin, jazz and modern jazz tradition. In addition to his work as a performer, he also works as a music teacher and teaches at various institutions. Diego Pinera is regarded as one of the leading jazz drummers of his generation, whose creative style is recognised worldwide.
