Tore Brunborg

No other country produces more prominent jazz musicians per capita worldwide than Norway.

Jan Garbarek is the guiding star, but it was primarily the second generation born in the 1960s that propelled "Nordic Jazz" to global recognition: Nils Petter Molvær, Bugge Wesseltoft, Geir Lysne, Eivind Aarset, and saxophonist Tore Brunborg.

Born in 1960, Brunborg hails from Trondheim, the jazz hub of Norway, and he completed his highly acclaimed education at the conservatory there. Internationally, Brunborg is better known as a sideman. Since 1982, he has been a part of the quintet led by Arild Andersen and Jon Christensen.

ACT fans may recognize him as a member of the Geir Lysne Listening Ensemble and, most recently, from Manu Katché's band. In his own quartet, Brunborg has collaborated with Bugge Wesseltoft and Anders Jormin. His current band comprises exquisite companions from the vanguard of Norwegian jazz, notably the guitar eccentric Eivind Aarset.
