Danish Innovator of Hymns in the Spirit of Jazz
Janne Mark creates church music that breaks away from the often dusty, strictly traditional roots and instead resonates with the here and now, deeply embedded in society. Her music embraces the freedom of jazz and the expansiveness of the Scandinavian folk music tradition. As a result, her hymns have found a place beyond the sacred, within the secular realm. On "Pilgrim", you’ll discover pieces that, as she says herself, are "written for both the unchurched and the churchgoers."
The album includes an introductory text and acknowledgments in Danish, with song lyrics also available in English.

Janne Mark
Janne Mark writes church music, but not in that often dusty, strictly traditional way, but one that plays in the here and now, in the midst of society, utilising the freedom of jazz and the breadth of the Scandinavian folk music tradition. Thus her songs have also found their place outside the sacred, in the secular realm.
Janne Mark has been singing in the Brorson Church in the centre of Copenhagen since 2000. With her music, she has revitalised the Danish hymn tradition like no one else in her generation.
Janne Mark is a fascinating artist who has successfully forged a path between hymn, folk, song and jazz.
