Janne Mark schreibt Kirchenmusik, aber nicht auf jene oft verstaubte, streng in der Tradition verankerte Art, sondern eine, die im Hier und Jetzt, mitten in der Gesellschaft spielt, und sich dabei der Freiheit des Jazz und der Weite der skandinavischen Volksmusiktradition bedient. Danish Innovator of Church Hymns in the Spirit of Jazz
Janne Mark composes church music, but not in the often
stuffy, strictly traditional way. Instead, her approach is rooted in the here
and now, right in the heart of society, drawing upon the freedom of jazz and
the vastness of the Scandinavian folk music tradition.
As a result, her songs have found a place beyond the
confines of the sacred and into secular spaces.
Since 2000, Janne Mark has been singing at Brorsonskirche in
the heart of Copenhagen. Through her music, she has revitalized the Danish
church hymn tradition like no one else in her generation.
