Monk without piano in a trio of alto saxophone, double bass and drums: you can't get more daring than that with the jazz old master. But Pédron convinces with bravura! "This album is a wonderful homage to the music of Thelonious Monk. Pierrick and his band give his classics a makeover: full of lively rhythms and bubbling with young energy and ideas. Highly recommended!"- Phil Woods

Pierrick Pédron
According to "Le Monde," he is "a master of the alto saxophone" – Frenchman Pierrick Pédron. In his home country, he has long been one of the most sought-after and highly regarded jazz musicians. He won the "Concours de la Defense" and other important awards such as the "Prix Django Reinhardt" or the "Prix Boris Vian." Pédron also collaborates internationally with well-known compatriots like Baptiste Trotignon, Vincent Artaud, or the Belmondo brothers, as well as with US stars Wynton Marsalis, Mulgrew Miller, and Lewis Nash. Rooted strongly in the spirit of bebop, he masters the high-energy, breakneck pace of Straight Ahead Modern Jazz while also venturing confidently into experiments with rock, fusion, and electronics – yet always sounding entirely like himself.
