Erna Rot
Erna Rot was born in Berlin and lives as a singer, composer and author in Cologne.
Actually, her life has hardly changed since she was a child. Back then she had her own radio show.
She read out the news and the weather report, did interviews with herself, recorded jingles on her self-made drums and sang songs on her piano. Like Knef, she wanted and still wants: all or nothing! Music, literature and film.
Her triad - her harmony. Her path led her to study literature in Dresden, to the Academy of Music in Osnabrück, and finally to Cologne to study directing at the Academy of Media Arts.
With her alter ego, she went in search of her musical roots. The result is stories about life with all its facets and beauties.
Erna Rot sings in German - without embellishments, bluntly with simple language, but sometimes frighteningly profound. About charlatans, busybodies, grumblers and sourpusses. Cheeky, snotty, ironic and definitely a bit nasty.
Musically, jazz is her ground, which she mixes and varies freely with other styles such as chanson, swing, bluegrass or pop.
The main thing is authentic, the main thing is Erna!
