George Gruntz
The Swiss jazz pianist, composer and bandleader gained international recognition for his cross-genre compositions and orchestral works. Gruntz worked with famous jazz greats such as Don Cherry, Chet Baker and Phil Woods and was known for his innovative arrangements and musical experiments. In addition to his work as a musician, he also composed for theatre and opera and was artistic director of the Berlin Jazz Festival for many years. George Gruntz is regarded as one of the formative figures of European jazz, who inspired generations of musicians with his versatile works. He died in 2013.
