The German jazz drummer and composer is known for his versatility and creative experimentation. He became famous above all as the drummer of the Michael Wolllny Trio, with whom he released numerous award-winning albums and gained international recognition. Schaefer works in various musical projects and combines influences from jazz, classical music, electronic music and world music in his playing. He combines complex rhythms with melodic sensitivity and is regarded as one of the formative figures of modern European jazz, constantly opening up new musical paths with his innovative approaches.
