Peter Apfelbaum
The American saxophonist, bandleader and composer is known for his cross-genre works. He founded the ‘Hieroglyphics Ensemble’ in the 1970s, which combined jazz, world music, funk and experimental elements. Apfelbaum has worked with numerous greats of the music scene such as Don Cherry, Nana Vasconcelos and Bill Laswell and was an important part of the creative music movement in New York. His compositions are complex, rhythmically innovative and influenced by global musical traditions. Apfelbaum is considered a prominent figure in the field of modern improvised music and remains relevant due to his versatility and creativity.
