"Stunningly mature! Her international breakthrough." JAZZTHETIK
Frøy Aagre
Frøy Aagre has always been praised by critics for her powerful compositions and her very individual style within Scandinavian jazz. As a student she went to Birmingham, where she was able to study Indonesian gamelan music as well as classical saxophone and jazz. She was part of the seething jazz scene in London, studied tango in Buenos Aires and, in New York with David Liebman, the quiet concentration from which great music emerges. The years of travelling have broadened her view: "My music may sound Norwegian, but I have gathered influences for my music everywhere." At the Oslo Conservatory she also studied the compositional techniques of the 20th century, knows Schönberg's methods as well as Messiaens' synaesthesias.
