"Live at Birdland New York" is a document of the long-standing and intense collaboration between two masters. It is also a statement that the American piano virtuoso Richie Beirach is not a relic of the past but a vibrant presence in the world of jazz.
Richie Beirach
The Brooklyn-born jazz pianist and composer is known for his lyrical and innovative playing style. He studied classical piano and jazz at the Manhattan School of Music and worked with jazz greats such as Stan Getz and Chet Baker in the 1970s. His long-standing collaboration with saxophonist Dave Liebman, with whom he performed in the group ‘Lookout Farm’ and in various duo projects, was particularly influential. Beirach's music combines influences from classical music, in particular Bach, Wagner and Schönberg, with jazz harmonies and deep emotional expression. As a teacher and mentor, he has influenced numerous young musicians and is regarded as a key figure in modern jazz piano.
