Bernard ‘Pretty’ Purdie is one of the most sought-after and influential studio and session musicians in the world. The drummer is known for his ‘Purdie Shuffle’, a rhythmic pattern that has become his trademark and has inspired many musicians. Over the course of his career, he has played on over 4000 recordings and worked with greats such as Aretha Franklin, Steely Dan, James Brown and Miles Davis. Purdie has made a significant contribution to the musical and rhythmic development of soul, funk and R&B and is regarded as one of the most productive and versatile drummers of his time. His style, characterised by groove, precision and musical sensitivity, makes him an icon of modern music.
