OPUS KLASSIK for vision string quartet “in the fields”
Berlin (ACT), June 22, 2026 The vision string quartet has won the most important German classical music award OPUS KLASSIK for its ACT debut in the fields. For ACT, the album marks a further opening towards contemporary and classical music, and the award is the first OPUS KLASSIK in the label’s history. in the fields wins the award in the category “Classical Without Borders,” prevailing over fellow nominees Avi Avital, Alice Sara Ott, Abel Selaocoe and Esther Abrami. The award ceremony will take place in Berlin on October 10 and 11.
In the fields is a manifesto for the versatility of the string quartet and a statement of musical curiosity from its protagonists Florian Willeitner (violin), Daniel Stoll (violin), Leonard Disselhorst (cello), and Sander Stuart (viola). The album’s dramatic arc is shaped by the five-movement structure of Béla Bartók’s String Quartet No. 4, while further classical inspirations include Maurice Ravel’s String Quartet in F major and the third movement of Antonín Dvořák’s String Quartet No. 13. Inspired by these works, compositions by Florian Willeitner and the musical guests Joel Lyssarides (piano) and Mahan Mirarab (guitar) carry the story of these classical models forward.
Founded in 2012 the vision string quartet has established itself as one of the finest string quartets of its generation. It belongs to the small group of ensembles that, following in the footsteps of the Kronos Quartet and Quatuor Ébène, are paving the way for the future of the string quartet. With their ability to move between the classical string quartet repertoire and their own compositions drawing on genres such as folk, pop, rock, funk and minimal music, these four visionary artists continue to bring fresh impulses to the musical world. The OPUS KLASSIK for in the fields is already the second in the ensemble’s history.
