The ACT Agency expands into classical music
September 16, 2024
With around 500 concerts a year throughout Europe and a prominent international roster of artists, ACT's booking, concert and management division The ACT Agency has established itself as a major player in the field of jazz and jazz-related music since it was founded seven years ago. Now the agency is expanding its spectrum into the world of classical music, with a strong focus on instrumental and chamber music. The focus is on classical artists with a contemporary, forward-looking view of the genre. According to ACT head Andreas Brandis, this is "explicitly not about crossover or neoclassical music, but about classical music at the very highest level and musicians who interpret the classical canon as well as writing new music themselves or having it written for them and want to reach a broad, diverse audience with their work." The ACT Agency is launching the new classical music branch with the renowned vision string quartet and its violinist Florian Willeitner, the highly acclaimed violinist Clarissa Bevilacqua and the successful composer Arash Safaian.
The Berlin team is also growing in terms of personnel for the expansion of content: ACT is bringing Pierre Maiwald, an experienced classical music manager, into the company as Senior Artist & Concert Manager Classical / New Repertoire. The musicology graduate most recently worked for the leading classical music streaming service IDAGIO and previously represented artists at june Artists Management and Künstlersekretariat Astrid Schoerke. In addition, Floriane Schroetter, an Artist & Concert Manager with classical music experience, is already part of the ACT team, which now comprises a total of fourteen permanent employees.
Andreas Brandis says: "Opening up The ACT Agency to classical music is an obvious and logical step. For me, the worlds of improvised and classical music are related, the link is above all chamber music - the deep, intimate experience of instrumental music in particular. Many of our jazz artists regularly perform in classical venues and series, collaborate with classical artists or ensembles, there is a common audience and similar industry mechanisms. In this respect, it is a natural development that we give both worlds a home in our agency. Classical music is also part of my personal biography. My family is strongly influenced by this music, I played classical violin myself before studying jazz and worked in various positions for Deutsche Grammophon and ECM New Series." Andreas Brandis also runs the Concerto21 summer academy for up-and-coming classical musicians and produces classical recordings, most recently that of accordionist Goran Stefanovic.
