We are proud to announce that Black String have won the Asia and Pacific category Songlines Magazine Music Award for their critically-acclaimed album Mask Dance, which was released on ACT in 2016. The ceremony will take place on Saturday 20th October at the Electric Brixton, where Black String will perform alongside a selection of nominees and winners.
Mask Dance explores the tonal palette of traditional Korean instruments - such as the suldae, geomungo and zither – and brings a sound that hosts a range of colours and mesmerising timbres that well up from silence and grasp the senses. Black String’s unique blend of Korean traditional music, jazz and free improvisation creates a unique musical language, which has been recognized by Songlines with the honour at this year’s prestigious ceremony.
Now in their tenth year, the Songlines Music Awards champion the wealth of brilliant music-making taking place around the world that is featured in the revered UK publication Songlines. All the albums have been reviewed during the past year, and nominees in the geographical categories were selected by a team of international contributors.
