The renowned Finnish Pori Jazz festival has honored guitarist Kalle Kalima "Ted Curson Award". The award which is presented by Pori Jazz for the first time this year is named after the American trumpeter Ted Curson (1935 - 2012). since the 60s Curson was a regular guest artist at the festival, and was living temporarily in Finland and thus formed the program of Pori Jazz.
The jury says about the award for Kalle Kalima: "In his long career Kalima worked in a variety of ensembles. Special achievements of his are a great freedom for expression and the combination of jazz and rock in his music.”
On July 16th Kalle Kalima presents his current project “High Noon” on the main stage of Pori Jazz. The programme conists of adaptions of American Western movie soundtracks.
