German Jazz Gold Award for Michael Wollny Trio “Weltentraum”
For his current album “Weltentraum” pianist Michael Wollny has just received his first “German Jazz Gold Award” for a recording under his own name by the Federal Association of the German Music Industry (“Bundesverband Musikindustrie”). ACT head Siggi Loch presented the award on March 31st at the final concert of the hugely successful and almost entirely sold out “Karsten Jahnke JazzNights” tour at the Frankfurt Opera House.
This award confirms that “Weltentraum” ranks among the most successful jazz albums of 2014 already, selling more units within two months than each of its seven predecessors did in their entirety. Especially in times of decreasing album sales, the German Jazz Award has become a rarity, in 2013 only eleven of the 3,500 jazz releases in Germany received this award. Moreover “Weltentraum” has reached #1 of the German amazon and itunes jazz charts and made it up to #46 of the official German pop album charts.
“Weltentraum” also marks Michael Wollny’s international breakthrough, he made it on the cover of „Jazzwise“ - as the first German artist in the history of the magazine. The French “Jazzman / Jazz magazine” selected “Weltentraum” as album of the month and the album reached the upper ranks of the French jazz charts.
All this is evidence that the release of Weltentraum marks „Michael Wollny’s graduation from rising star to star“ (Jazzwise, Stuart Nicholson).
