The ACT nominees at ECHO Jazz 2018

The whole spectrum of jazz and it's associated genres shows in the choice of the ACT artists who have just been nominated for the ECHO Jazz Award - the jazz-branch of the most prestigious German music award.
Two categories come with a double-nomination: As "drummer of the year, national", Wolfgang Haffner receives a nomination for his Spanish-coloured modern jazz album "Kind of Spain" and Eric Schaefer is nominated for "Kyoto, mon Amour" - his musical love letter to Japan. Also two outstanding guitarists share the nomination in the "guitarist, international" category: Scott DuBois for his autumn-suite "Autumn Wind" and Nguyên Lê for his East-Western album "Ha Noi Duo". Lê's collaborator on this project, multi-instrumentalist Ngo Hong Quang also receives a nomination as "instrumentalist of the year, various instruments".
A European allstar band reached huge acclaim in 2017: "Out of Land" with Michael Wollny, Vincent Peirani, Emile Parisien and Andreas Schaerer. And so it seems natural that the quartet is nominated for "group of the year, international". And Andreas Schaerer receives yet another nomination for "larnge ensemble, international" - with his orchestral album "The Big Wig" featuring his band "Hildegard lernt Fliegen" and the "Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra".
During the last years, Dieter Ilg became most known as an arranger of Classical music in the jazz context. After Verdi, Wagner and Beethoven followed "B-A-C-H", and another nomination as "bassist of the year, national". A new member of the ACT Family is flutist Magnus Lindgren, who, for his old-school Funk album "Stockholm Underground" is nominated in the category "woodwinds". Since his first release at the age of 16 trumpeter Julian Wasserfuhr is an exclusive ACT artist - and today, together with his brother Roman, one of the most succesful jazz musicians of Germany. He is nominated "trumpeter of the year, national" for the album "Landed in Brooklyn", recorded in New York with an allstar cast of local musicians.
The ECHO Jazz Award ceremony will take place on May 31th at "Kampnagel" in Hamburg. Details about the show and ticket pre-sales will be published soon on www.echojazz.de .
