Heinz Sauer, born in 1932, is considered a "titan" (FAZ) and "grand master of the saxophone" (DIE ZEIT). The tenor saxophonist has kept his creativity and his lively, unpredictable style of playing to this day. Ever since his beginnings at the side of Albert Mangelsdorff he has stood in the focal point of European jazz history, and he is considered a fundamental great of German jazz. As a member of the hr-Jazzensemble, in many years of collaboration with the pianist Bob Degen and since 1999 as a duet with Michael Wollny, Heinz Sauer has always sought the greatest possible expressiveness on his instrument and celebrated the freedom of modern jazz in mutual inspiration.
