The Norwegian saxophone player, composer and arranger Geir Lysne is one of the greatest innovators in his field – both in jazz and in the Norwegian classical orchestra landscape. With his "Listening Ensemble" he no less than redefined the big-band concept. "This band doesn't copy anything from anywhere," wrote the Süddeutsche Zeitung. The FAZ newspaper saw in Lysne "a jewel and a visionary". He has won prizes like the German record critics award, the Norwegian Grammy and just recently the Echo Jazz 2013 for the best big-band album. Lysne gives jazz a whole new spectrum of colours in the widest range of musician constellations. With out of the ordinary instrumentations and especially by generously borrowing from world-music contexts, he has succeeded in creating an entirely new "Nordic" and distinctive kind of melodious stereophony and dynamic.
