Vijay Iyer receives Jazz Journalists Association Jazz Award 2010 as Musician Of The Year

The pianist/composer Vijay Iyer has received the prestigious American Jazz Journalists Association Jazz Award 2010 as Musician Of The Year. Other nominees in this category were Sony Rollins, Joe Lovano, Dave Douglas and Henry Threadgill.

The Jazz Journalists Association Jazz Award is one of the most important international jazz awards. The winners are determined by an independent jury of prominent jazz journalists. By receiving the award, Vijay Iyer ranks with previous awardees such Herbie Hancock, Ornette Coleman, Wayne Shorter or Dave Holland.

The award is another milestone in the ongoing public recognition of Vijay Iyer’s ACT debut album Historicity (ACT 9489-2). His new album Solo (ACT 9497-2) is going to be released on August 27, 2010.
