Outstanding success for ACT at ECHO Jazz Award 2010

With five awards, among them the price for "Jazz Label of the Year", ACT was among the big winners of the ECHO Jazz award 2010 – the jazz edition of Germany’s most prestigious music award. The award ceremony took place on May 5th at the sold-out “Jahrhunderthalle” in Bochum.

ACT head Siggi Loch stated: “The award for the label of the year is a special honour for us, since it was chosen by our audience – the people we make our records for. This is not only a very special appreciation but also a responsibility for the future.”

Furthermore, four ACT artists received an ECHO: The Vijay Iyer Trio was elected “best ensemble international ” for the album Historicity (ACT 9489-2) and performed a thrilling energetic live version of the M.I.A. classic “Galang”. Michael Wollny received the ECHO as “best pianist national” for his album Wunderkammer (ACT 9487-2) and Wolfgang Haffner was awarded “best drummer national” for his album Round Silence (ACT9605-2). The winner in the category “big band album of the year” is Finging Nymo (ACT 9491-2) by Helge Sunde Ensemble Denada.

The musical peak of the award ceremony was the appearance of the ECHO All Stars, with Michael Wollny on piano and Wolfgang Haffner on drums, performing the song “Mensch” by Herbert Grönemeyer, one of Germany’s most prestigious musicians. Moreover, the Nils Landgren Funk Unit electrified the audience with the driving title song of their new album Funk For Life (ACT 9500-2).
