During a press conference at the MIDEM music fair in Cannes on January 26, the renown Swedish trombonist Nils Landgren and ACT CEO Siegfried Loch handed over a cheque for 25.000 euros to Dan Sermand, head of Médecins Sans Frontières, Sweden.
In the course of the release of his new album Funk For Life (ACT 9500-2), Nils Landgren and Médecins Sans Frontières support the music education of children and teenagers in Kibera / Nairobi, one for Africa’s largest slums. One euro of each sold unit of Funk For Life will be donated for this purpose, in equal shares paid by Nils Landgren and ACT. The 25.000 euros currently handed over at MIDEM are an advance payment to the expected donations from the upcoming record sales.
Particularly with regard to the very difficult current situation in the record business, Nils Landgren is very glad about the support from his record label ACT: “When I told Siegfried Loch about my idea, he didn’t hesitate and said: "I’ll bring in half of it.". And he even went one step further: As no-one knows exactly how many CDs will be sold in these times of continually decreasing record sales, ACT will present a cheque to MSF for 25,000 euros as a guaranteed advance payment of the expected donation amount. What great news!”
The album Funk For Life (ACT 9500-2) has been released on January 22nd. At the end of March Nils Landgren and his band “Funk Unit” will start an extensive tour through Europe and will continue the ambitious project: One euro of each sold ticket will also be donated to Médecins Sans Frontières.
